Going "10-8" with Christ
Fellow Officers and Supporters:
Another crazy week so please bear with me (and keep me in prayer) as I pound out this week’s newsletter and prepare for tonight's (Thursday) message. Note that the latest PRAYER REQUESTS and MEETING SCHEDULE (the latter being for my FCPO-Denver regulars and visitors) have been posted below (next post) and are updated on a near-daily basis. With that said, last week’s profession-relevant, tactical Bible study on the subject of compromise (Cops & Compromise) was especially timely given the recent ungodly and wholly compromising decision (AKA sin) of our President and the Justice Department to cease defending the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). Let me be perfectly clear as to the position of this ministry on the subject of compromise: on issues of biblical truth, we WON’T; when it comes to issues of opinion, then I’m open to reason (see Isaiah 1:17-20). However, it is my biblical position and that of The Centurion Law Enforcement Ministry that God’s inerrant and perfectly sufficient word – the Bible – is our sole standard of truth and we will NOT compromise on it. In short, any argument you may have about biblical truth is with God and not me (my “opinion” doesn’t mean a thing if it is not in alignment with His word). Yes, there are areas of scripture that lend themselves to discussion/debate/interpretation but God’s word generally means EXACTLY what it says. Last week’s study was very much in the latter category. Accordingly…
Study RECAP: Cops & Compromise
Our study focused on two heroes (biblical “cops”) who refused to compromise when it came to God’s clear and loving direction: Nehemiah in Nehemiah 6:1-9 and Daniel in Daniel 1:8-16 and 6:1-10.
In Nehemiah, we see a stalwart warrior literally standing in the gap on Jerusalem’s walls. Nehemiah was faced with both temptation and the threat of death but remained steadfast (uncompromising) in obeying God’s plan. What Nehemiah presents to us today is a picture of a mature believer in Christ who has learned to stand strong in the Lord so that nothing could penetrate his “walls” -- one who is able to withstand any attack by the “enemy” (Satan and his demonic forces). How? We see in Nehemiah a believer who was able to victoriously combat evil, temptation and the pull of “the world” by staying FIXED on God’s plan. In short, Nehemiah stayed the course, relied wholly on God for his strength and provision (But now, O God, strengthen my hands – Nehemiah 6:9) and refused to waiver (compromise).
In the person of Daniel we have another example of a man of purpose who stood strong in the face of overwhelming temptation to compromise. Daniel purposed in his heart to uphold the law of God regardless of the cost (Daniel 1:8); Daniel remained faultless in his business affairs (Daniel 6:1-4); Daniel humbly sought the Lord in prayer and placed his whole trust in Him (Daniel 6:10). The New Testament crossover is found in 1 Timothy 4:12, 1 Thessalonians 5:17-18, and Colossians 4:2.
So what are examples of compromise today? How is it justified? Many will wrongly argue that they can do what they want because it “feels” right to them; that they can decide for themselves what is "right" or wrong. Examples include but are by no means limited to sex outside of marriage, adultery (all kinds of justifying and excuses for both of those), homosexual relationships and the rejection of God’s plan for marriage – the DOMA issue (see http://www.gotquestions.org/gay-marriage.html and http://www.gotquestions.org/homosexuality-Bible.html), flirting (very dangerous territory -- especially for cops), “hanging out” with unbelievers in places neither Christians nor LEOs have any business frequenting, alcohol abuse (yes, getting drunk is SIN), pornography, making “the job” first over God and family, eschewing the fellowship of other believers (AKA “church”), etc.
In short the “world” (Satan; man) tells us that if it “feels” good we can go ahead and do it. However, God’s word in Proverbs 14:12 and 16:25 counters with, There is a way that seems right to man (aka “feeling”), but in the end it leads to death. Isaiah 5:20 tells us, Woe to those how call evil good and good evil; who put darkness for light and light for darkness. Our Lord also tells in Acts 5:29 that we are to obey Him rather than the ways of man (society, “the world”). Moreover, it is safe to say that II Corinthians 6:14-17 is not just referring to marriage when it talks about being separate from unbelievers. Finally, I suggest that you review Galatians 5:16-24: So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. The acts of the flesh (compromise/sin) are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other. Again, God’s way as opposed to “the world’s” way.
So what about you? Have you been living a life of compromise – living “your way” instead of God’s (the ONLY way)? Cops are often the “kings” (and “queens”) of justification and compromise! I was sure one and, quite frankly, God had to literally kick my prideful, stubborn, backslidden “behind” and break me in order to get my attention. Painful? Yes. Necessary? Absolutely. If that is you today, our Lord is ready to forgive you and bring you into the fold (or BACK into it if you’ve fallen away as I did). Our Father loves you so much that He sent His only Son to die on the cross for you – to pay YOUR just penalty (John 3:16). What does it really mean to “believe” – to repent of your sin and enter into a life-saving/life-changing relationship (NOT “religion”) with Christ as Lord and Savior? Perhaps you think you’re a “good person” (Cops get a “get out of Hell” card and a free “pass” into Heaven – right??) and you can therefore just keep doing it your way. Maybe you think that you can be a “Christian” and keep living in your sinful state in overt violation of God’s law. Regardless, go to http://www.fcpo.org/christian.html and take the “Good Person Test.” Let me know how you do – and know that we’re “here” for you in any way we can be.
Tonight (Thursday, 03/03/2011) we’ll be meeting at our regular time (7:00 PM) and location (High School Room, Calvary South Denver -- http://www.calvarycsd.org/ -- in Littleton) for a great follow-up to this study – what it means to be "10-8" with Christ. Our own Matt Wallenburg will again lead us in a time of worship (not to be missed) and we’ll conclude with prayer and outstanding fellowship (Louie will undoubtedly bring refreshments…). Please tell a friend/colleague and join us (don’t forget to bring your spouse) – we always have a GREAT TIME in the Lord. Again, the updated meeting schedule is already posted below.
TRAINING!
Tulsa PD Captain and Ten-Four Ministries (http://www.tenfourministries.org/) Director Travis Yates has an online EVOC webinar on LawOfficer.com that I can’t recommend enough. Go to http://www.lawofficer.com/webinars and click on the “Drive to Survive” seminar right at the top.
NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS:
(1) Our own James “Jimmy” Wattles sent me the following and I recommend it highly. It is the audio testimony given by Colorado Springs Police Officer Jamie Royal who recently passed away after valiantly battling brain cancer. Let me know what you think… http://emedialink.com/video/12616/Testimony-of-Jamie-Royal.
(2) Diana and I, along with a couple of my "regulars," saw The Grace Card this past weekend. My friend Travis Yates put out an interesting review on his blog about the film that I have to agree with -- at least to a point. That said, I really encourage you to go see it...life-changing stuff with a direct relationship to our unique, God-ordained profession.
(3) On advice from Calvary Aurora Pastor Ed Taylor, we will be moving our once-monthly meeting at Calvary Chapel Aurora to Friday. See the updated meeting schedule in the next post for more.
(4) Finally, this came to me today from a retired New Orleans PD officer:
“I have a friend that was shot and paralyzed from the waist down back in the 1980s. Back then the salary for medical retired cops in New Orleans was very low so he was retired at a low salary and benefits package. I am curious if anyone knows of available benefits for paralyzed cops that helps defer the cost of wheelchairs, wheelchair accessible vehicles and other things one might need to survive. He has the city insurance and a few other things, but it seems that there should be more out there for cops who have given so much. FYI he lost everything during Katrina also and still works as a clerk for NOPD. Please respond to me if you have any ideas.” Contact Jeffreyhochman@aol.com
Let’s stay the course and finish strong in the power of our true Commander AND Chief, Jesus Christ.

** Please pray for the husband of one of my "locals" (FCPO-Denver) who is suffering terribly from an extremely debilitating medical condition.
** FCPO Pres. Paul Lee sent out the following prayer request this morning:
John Stuermer’s father, Harris Stuermer, suffered a stroke yesterday. I just spoke to John. He said his father is doing better has been talking and asking some questions. Please keep Mr. Stuermer along with John in your prayers. John is at the hospital right now.
** Pray for a brother officer and his family who are having a very difficult time financially. The stress is also causing additional problems at home.
** Two more officers down in the last few days...pray for their families and colleagues (see http://www.odmp.org/).
** Pray for several officers who will be testing for promotion or transfer in the coming weeks, including one today (02/28). God's will, direction and protection.
** Pray for a new believer (recently came to Christ after retiring from a PD and then losing his wife after a long illness). Our brother needs lots of prayer and support...enemy working OT on him.
** I'm asking you to pray for myself and my fellow FCPO National Board members (see www.FCPO.org/board.html) as we seek God's guidance and direction. We're being stretched both personally and professionally and truly need both your support and God's perfect plan. Trying to juggle our demanding profession, family and ministry is extremely difficult and we all deal with the same issues all of you do. Also PRAISE God that FCPO is growing and doing well. Thanks in advance.
** Speaking of FCPO, FCPO Board Pres. Paul Lee asks that we keep Hank Harley in prayer. Paul writes, Hank is one of the executive leaders of FCPO Canada. Several years ago he was diagnosed with cancer and God graciously carried him to recovery. Recently, while on vacation in Florida, Hand felt something was wrong with one of his legs and went to the hospital to be checked. It was found Hank has a brain tumor. He and his wife Andrea are on their way back to Canada for treatment. Go to the FCPO Canada website at http://www.fcpocanada.com/index.php and see Hank’s photo so you can put a face with your prayers.
** Please pray for Tulsa (OK) PD Capt. Paul Fields who has been reassigned and is facing an IA investigation for refusing to attend and order his officers to attend an event at a Mosque! See http://www.foxnews.com/us/2011/02/23/oklahoma-police-captain-refuses-attend-islamic-event/?test=latestnews.

Newsletter: A Cop's True Calling & Purpose
Dear Fellow Officers and Supporters:
Finding enough time and energy over the past ten days has been something of an ordeal so please bear with me. Most have no idea how much time it takes to put together a weekly newsletter, prepare my message -- essentially a profession-relevant sermon, run this ministry (as much a calling from God as my profession), take care of my other ministry responsibilities at my church, “be there” for bride and family, and hold down my law enforcement duties. That is why I routinely ask you to keep me in prayer – and even more this week when the enemy is afoot. While God’s call for me is a joy, I do in fact covet your prayerful support. Thanks in advance! That said, let’s get to it!
We’re NOT SPAM!
Unfortunately, I’m discovering that some of you are finding emailed version of this newsletter in your SPAM folders. I’ve also been told that our website may have been flagged by McAfee for "suspicious activity" (clearly not but I'm working on it). Please be sure that you add both my email addresses (fullarmor911@yahoo.com and thecenturionministry@yahoo.com to your address books. In addition, this website is absolutely safe. FYI!
MESSAGE RECAP
We had another full-house for last week’s Centurion Law Enforcement Ministry/Fellowship of Christian Peace Officers chapter (FCPO-Denver) meeting and tactical Bible study. My hope is that readers will (1) use the recap as part of their own Bible studies and devotionals and (2) that you’ll adapt the studies for the law enforcement fellowships you are a part of in your respective jurisdictions around the country. Accordingly, here’s the recap from last week’s tactical Bible study dealing with the subject of "Being like Mike" -- the process of SANCTIFICATION:
When Michael Jordan was "king" of the hardwoods, the phrase "Be like Mike" was all over the airwaves. For the Christian, a big part of our call is the process of continually growing our faith and relationship (not the "other 'r' word -- "religion") to become "like Christ" in all we do and say. That process stems from the Greek word hagiazo -- being "separated" or "set apart" through sanctification -- what it means to be "conformed" to the image of Christ (Romans 8:29).
I covered three main points:
(1) Santification is different than salvation. Rather, sanctification is an ongoing (ideally life-long) result of salvation.
(2) Sanctification is a continuing process (see Galatians 5:17).
(3) Sanctification is a Christian responsibility.
So how do we get there? How can we "be like Christ?" Jesus had a lot to say about sanctification in the John 17. In verse 16 the Lord says, “They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world,” and this is before His prayer that the Father “Sanctify them in the truth: Thy word is truth.” Sanctification is a state of separation unto God; all believers enter into this state when they are born of God: “But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God—and righteousness and sanctification and redemption” (1 Corinthians 1:30). This is a once-for-ever separation, eternally unto God. It is an intricate part of our salvation, our connection with Christ (Hebrews 10:10). Sanctification also refers to the practical experience of this separation unto God, being the effect of obedience to the Word of God in one’s life, and is to be pursued by the believer earnestly (1 Peter 1:15; Hebrews 12:14). Just as the Lord prayed in John 17, it has in view the setting apart of believers for the purpose for which they are sent into the world: “As Thou didst send Me into the world, even so send I them into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they themselves also may be sanctified in truth” (v. 18, 19). That He set Himself apart for the purpose for which He was sent is both the basis and the condition of our being set apart for that for which we are sent (John 10:36). His sanctification is the pattern of, and the power for, ours. The sending and the sanctifying are inseparable. On this account they are called saints, hagioi in the Greek -- “sanctified ones.” Whereas previously their behavior bore witness to their standing in the world in separation from God, now their behavior should bear witness to their standing before God in separation from the world. There is one more sense that the word sanctification is referred to in Scripture. Paul prayed in 1 Thessalonians 5:23, “The God of peace Himself sanctify you wholly; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved entire, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Paul also wrote in Colossians of “the hope which is laid up for you in the heavens, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the Gospel” (Colossians 1:5). He later speaks of Christ Himself as “the hope of glory” (Colossians 1:27) and then mentions the fact of that hope when he says, “When Christ, who is our Life, shall be manifested, then shall ye also with Him be manifested in glory” (Colossians 3:4). This glorified state will be our ultimate separation from sin, total sanctification in every aspect. “Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is” (1 John 3:2).
To summarize, sanctification is the same Greek word as holiness, “hagios,” meaning a separation. First, a once-for-all positional separation unto Christ at our salvation. Second, a practical progressive holiness/obedience in a believer’s life while awaiting the return of Christ. Third, we will be changed into His perfect likeness—holy, sanctified, and completely separated from the presence of evil. See also 1 Cor. 2:16.
That's part of our call -- to intentionally be more and more "like Christ" in all we do and say. To do that, we have to understand sin and walk in obedience in accordance with His perfect word and standard, the Bible.
Tonight I'll talk about another part of our call -- the one given by God specifically to to law enforcement personnel.

A Call to Arms!
Brothers and Sisters of the Sword:
After my somewhat lengthy (“extended”) newsletter last week, you’ll be relieved to discover that this week’s edition is a tad more abbreviated due to the weather-induced cancellation of last Thursday's profession-relevant Bible study. That said, we should be “good to go” this Thursday and I’ll post a detailed recap for everyone in next week’s newsletter – stay tuned!
As you know, prayer is a major part of what God is calling us to do through this ministry. An email from my friend and fellow Fellowship of Christian Peace Officers (FCPO) board member Paul Lee in Tennessee helped confirm that emphasis and I wanted to share some of his thoughts with you. Like many of us, the forty percent increase in line of duty deaths (LODD) in 2010 along with our tough start to 2011 has been very much on Paul’s heart. Paul writes,
I really can’t put into words what I am feeling. I guess the best way would be the uneasiness before a battle or an aggressive SWAT action that you know is about to happen. I do believe if Christ is preached to those in law enforcement and to those in the highways and byways, the alleys and streets, to the victim and the criminal, God is going to use FCPO as a driving force. We need to get ready and make sure all our brothers and sisters have all their armor on.
Well said my brother, well said! Paul will be sharing more with us in the coming weeks but his email has me once again urging you to take on a profound sense of exigency – a “CALL TO ARMS” if you will, to:
(1) submit your life to Christ if you have not already done so
(2) get off the “stinkin” fence” and be “all in” if you do know Him as Savior
(3) become battle-hardened prayer warriors for each other, our families and marriages, our profession, FCPO and this ministry, our nation and the world as a whole.
Jesus is coming soon – are you ready?
The Latest PRAYER REQUESTS & FCPO-Denver Area MEETING SCHEDULE are both updated and posted here on our website (next post). Check back frequently and be sure to take note of our new relationship with Calvary Aurora where we will be meeting once a month starting February 17th. Yes, we’re still meeting weekly at Calvary South Denver in Littleton – we’re just moving one of those meetings to Aurora in a "missionary" effort to be more inclusive of others in the metro area. All are welcome and we encourage spouses to attend. Please keep us in prayer regarding this endeavor.
ON PRAYER & HEALING
In lieu of my regular recap, I am instead sharing a brief devotional on the subject of healing. Biblically speaking, it is important to understand that while our Lord does in fact heal, He does not do it “on demand” or as if He is some kind of divine “Santa Claus.” On the contrary, our Lord heals in response to our prayers solely in accordance with His loving, perfect will. Accordingly, our goal should be to become more and more “like Christ” (Romans 8:29) in all we do – to seek God’s will and plan over our own. Jesus modeled that for us perfectly: "Men of Israel, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know" (Acts 2:22). Jesus Christ said of Himself, "The Son can do nothing by himself; he can only do what he sees the Father doing" (John 5:19). In the Greek the word nothing has a unique meaning -- it means "NOTHING" -- just like it does in English! Jesus displayed two main distinctions of His humanity:
(1) He had no sin to separate Him from the Father.
(2) He was completely dependent on the power of the Holy Spirit and God the Father working through Him.
So what then are the distinctions of our humanity? We are sinners cleansed ONLY by the blood of Jesus. Through His sacrifice Christ has successfully dealt with the power and effect of sin for all who believe and have placed their trust in Him. As such, nothing now separates us from the Father.
There remains only one unsettled issue - how dependent on God are we willing to live?
That is indeed THE question – how say you? Yes, we should absolutely pray for healing but we must do so while seeking first His perfect will and plan for our lives.
Our friends at GotQuestions.org have written some great articles on the subject of healing that I encourage you to read. See http://www.gotquestions.org/healing-Bible.html and the Related Topics section below it.
Warrior TRAINING!
(1) Yesterday I received the much-awaited after-action report on the Greeley (CO) shooting/LODD of Weld County Dep. Sam Brownlee. The report is both very well done and compelling in its conclusions. Dave will be partnering with Travis Yates and I this coming April 7th in Oklahoma for a very special presentation that we strongly encourage you to attend. For details, see Travis’s http://warriormissions.org/ and Dave’s http://www.warriorsciencegroup.com/.
These and other training resources are available on our website under the Law Enforcement Training – The Way of the Warrior section (scroll down on the left side). I’ve also added a number of new links and other profession-relevant info – check it out.
Lastly, the long-awaited family-oriented and law enforcement-based film The Grace Card will be begin showing at theaters on February 25th! This is a “must see” flic. Check it out at http://www.thegracecardmovie.com/.
Hope to see you Thursday if you’re in the Denver-metro area. Regardless, let’s make an extra effort to keep up with your time of worship, prayer, godly fellowship and Bible study (spiritual readiness) along with your ongoing physical training and warrior skills (note – being a sheepdog should not end with retirement).
To arms! The time is now and the battle is upon us.

Isaiah -- A Cop's Story
Fellow LEOs and Supporters:
2011 has gotten off to an extremely busy start with “full house” attendance at each of our first two local FCPO-Denver chapter meetings and our first-ever law enforcement baptism service this past Saturday. Reference same, I’ve posted a recap of our service and baptism message. Also check out the photos on our and Facebook pages:

Please read-on for more news!
ISAIAH the COP:
I’ve felt inspired of late to teach on the topic of the prophet Isaiah being very much a biblical “cop” in every sense of the word. If the Holy Spirit’s leading was not enough, Dale Henderson, my “partner AGAINST crime” (fellow LEO, chaplain and ministry leader) with Atlanta-based Centurions Faith (http://www.centurionsfaith.org/), sent me a copy of his new article that fully confirmed our topic for tonight’s (January 20th) profession-relevant Bible study. I’ll provide a link to Dale’s article and a detailed recap in next week’s newsletter – stay tuned!
Law Enforcement BAPTISM SERVICE Recap:
This past week’s profession-relevant study on baptism set the stage for our first-ever law enforcement baptism service held last Saturday at Southern Gables Church in Littleton. I must tell you that the service was a tremendous blessing for all involved and the presence of the Holy Spirit was overwhelming. In addition to those being baptized, we had a very enthusiastic group of officers, supporters and family present – including some who did not know Christ as Savior. Those being baptized all gave tremendous testimonies (WOW!) and I even got to teach my concluding message while standing in a nice warm baptismal (fun and special)! Our prayer is that the message, testimonies and acts of loving and joyful obedience planted seeds that will ultimately bear much good fruit.
Our primary Bible text was Luke 3:21-22 in which our Lord set the example of baptism for us: When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as he was praying, heaven was opened and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”
The meaning of the word “baptize” comes from the Greek word baptizo, which literally means to “immerse (submerge – not sprinkle or pour) in water.” God’s word, the Bible, is very clear that the act of being immersed in a way we can share in Christ’s own death and burial. Likewise, the act of coming back out of the water is symbolic of Christ’s own resurrection. Baptism is a therefore a biblical picture of leaving our old life behind and becoming a new creation in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17). The Bible tells us, Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life (Romans 6:3-4). As I relayed in my previous teaching on the “Great Commission” (Matthew 28:19), we also see that baptism is not an option but rather a command by Christ to which we are to be obedient (Acts 2:38).
There are two requirements before a person can be baptized:

(1) the person being baptized must have first trusted Christ as Savior – what it means to be a “Christian” (*see below);
and
(2) the person being baptized must understand what baptism signifies.
It is also very important to point out that baptism does not save us, nor is it a requirement for salvation. Being baptized does not add to what Christ has already done for us and it does not complete/compete with His atoning work on the cross.
Finally, baptism is a public testimony of what Christ has done for us – a way we can stand before witnesses to confess our identification with Jesus as Lord and Savior.
See also Acts 2:41, 8:36-38, 10:44-48, 18:8; Colossians 2:12; Galatians 2:20 (death); Romans 6:4-5 (resurrection); 1 Peter 3:21 and 1 Corinthians 6:11 (cleansing).
Finally, my fellow servant-warrior and ministry leader Travis Yates (Tulsa PD and Ten-Four Ministries -- http://www.tenfourministries.com/) has a great presentation on what it actually means to be a “Christian” – being “born again” – that I highly recommend: http://www.sermonaudio.com/sermoninfo.asp?SID=730101621525.

A "Code 3" Sense of Urgency
Fellow Servant-Warriors:
My heart is heavy tonight as we have started off 2011 along the same sad lines that we ended 2010 with. As many are aware, a fellow officer was shot and killed while investigating -- alone no less -- a shots fired call when the perp took her out with a shotgun. The suspect managed to wound another officer before dying in a hail of rightous gunfire (see http://policelink.monster.com/news/articles/148698-hell-broke-loose-in-gunfight-that-took-deputys-life). Just tonight here in Colorado a Northglenn officer was shot serving a warrant on a sex offender. At last report the officer is doing well, thank God (took rounds to the vest and arm) and the perpetrator reportedly took his own life before SWAT entered the residence. See http://www.9news.com/news/article.aspx?storyid=173404&catid=339.
Like our slain Ohio sister, we put on a badge, armor and weapon each day and hopefully seek God grace, protection and leading as we go out and stand in the gap (Ezek. 22:30) for those we serve and protect. Duty issues aside, there are thousands of our fellow servant-warriors who are also dealing with battle wounds, disease, family issues (see below), personal problems, and so much more. Bottom line remains the same: we MUST ALL come to Christ the same way. There is no "get out of hell pass" for those serving in law enforcement and we need to have a true "Code 3" sense of URGENCY about sharing the TRUTH of the Gospel with our brothers and sisters in "blue" (and of course being fully right with God ourselves). The horrendous but just consequence of a fellow officer dying without saying "yes" to Christ should be seen as untenable to all of us as there are NO SECOND CHANCES once this life ends. Stay tuned for more on this subject...!
There is no recap this week due to our weather-related cancellation this past Thursday. That said we are in fact "on" for this week and I'll post my usual recap in next week's newsletter. As an alternative, I encourage you to take the time to listen to the recorded Centurion Radio show I did last Friday with Tulsa PD Captain and Ten-Four Ministries Director Travis Yates. We talked about what true biblical servant-leadership should look like in our profession and had a very sobering discussion about the very topic I hit on above. Go to my New Year's Eve post and click on the link. I also strong encourage everyone to check out the many resources available at http://www.tenfourministries.org/. There you can sign-up for Travis's outstanding weekly e-newsletter and, for that officer who has yet to make a decision for Christ, click on the "Know God" button.
The Grace Card (a cop's movie) hits theaters on February 25th and I'm encouraging everyone to pray and promote the film (and of course go see it). I have a link on our website or just go to
http://www.thegracecardmovie.com/.
URGENT PRAYER REQUEST: One of our own and his family are in need of your ongoing prayer support. This officer's teen daughter is currently in a hospital dealing with a host of issues in what has been nothing short of a nightmare for all concerned. I don't want to give out any more details in this venue but God knows the need -- just PRAY!
Speaking of prayer requests, the latest have been posted here on our website (see the updated Dec. 26th post). Please check back frequently.
