The theme of this year's National Day of Prayer is Pray for America, emphasizing the need for individuals, corporately and individually, to place their faith in the unfailing character of God (meaning the God of the Bible), who is sovereign over all governments, authorities, and men. To further highlight this theme, Matthew 12:21 was chosen as the Scripture for this year: “In His name the nations will put their hope.”
We're hosting an official National Day of Prayer event here in Denver (at Calvary South Denver in Littleton, to be more precise) on Thursday, May 2nd, beginning at 7 PM. While our focus is law enforcement, anyone is welcome to join us in praying for our country and its leaders -- including those of us serving in our God-ordained profession of law enforcement. We're asking that FCPO chapters and other law enforcement ministries (and LEOs in general) across America will join us in doing the same. Cops United in Prayer: TCLEM/FCPO Newsletter for 1st Week of May, 2012
This week's newsletter has gone out via our connection through Constant Contact (be sure to sign up if you're not already on the list). Law Enforcement National Day of Prayer Event(s)
Dear Fellow Servant-Warriors:
This week’s newsletter comes both on the outstanding good news for the victims of 9-11 and those who gave both “some” and “all” for our country in the War on Terror, along with the tough news that quite a few of our brothers and sisters are struggling in the aftermath of the weather-related aftermath in the South.
On the “good news” front, we all know by know that our military brothers successfully took out our most sought-after criminal/terrorist. Praise God Almighty, none of ours were hurt in the raid. I find it particularly noteworthy that the unit commander called out “For God and country, Geronimo…” For God and country indeed! Let us also not forget the investigators – true sheepdogs/warriors – who worked in anonimoty for years to track down this despot and thus helped send him to judgment. Please keep our colleagues in prayer as the war is by no means over.
On the “bad news” side, a good many of our fellow LEOs serving in the "War on Crime" in the South have suffered major, tornado-related losses. Accordingly, a number of us are working to bring much-needed aid to them ASAP. Ten-Four Ministries director and Tulsa PD Captain Travis Yates is working with Fellowship of Christian Peace Officers (FCPO) personnel and others in a coordinated relief effort. If you are interested in helping, I urge you to immediately email Travis at info@tenfourministries.org. Pray – then be used by God to act.

As most know by now, last week The Centurion Law Enforcement Ministry had our Denver-area Fellowship of Christian Peace Officers chapter officially chartered. Most also know that I sit on the FCPO national board and it was an honor to have our Executive Director, Lamar Moore, fly out to speak and deliver our charter. Lamar’s profession-relevant sermon centered around Luke 5:27-39 (“...wine must be poured into new wineskins…”). Here are the highlights that can be adapted to your own studies:
(a) New problems require creativity (Proverbs 18:15) and patience (Proverbs 12:1).
(b) New problems require conviction (Romans 12:2) and commitment (1 Cor. 15:58).
(c) Both new problems and new possibilities will require courage (Hosea 10:12, Isaiah 43:18-19 and Psalm 31:24).
Lamar concluded his teaching by pointing out that Jesus cares more about PEOPLE than programs. Regarding courage and Psalm 31:24, Lamar added that it takes real courage to identify yourself in a profession that values self-reliance and personal strength. Rather, it takes real guts to “stick your neck out” for your faith amongst your peers. Amen to that!

MESSAGE RECAP:
We had an outstanding time of fellowship, prayer and profession-relevant study of God’s word at last week’s TCLEM meeting. Inasmuch as last Thursday was the National Day of Prayer, the Holy Spirit led me to change my prepared message to one that centered on the subject intercessory prayer. My text came from both Daniel 9 and how it relates to the Lord’s appearance to Solomon in II Chronicles 6 and 7 (and 7:14 in particular). What we see in both passages are men who humbled themselves before the Lord on behalf of their people. God tells Solomon in verse 14 that “if My people, who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
In brief, God is saying that if we will do three things --
(1) be humble (confess)
(2) pray (repent)
(3) turn (come back) to Him.
In turn, He will respond in three ways --
(2) hear
(3) forgive
(4) heal.
Likewise, in the 9th chapter of Daniel, we see a humble, obedient and righteous believer praying for his people (country). The entire chapter is a testimony to the fact that God DOES answer prayer in accordance with His perfect timing and will. That said, what is significant about Daniel and his prayer for the nation? Here are the main points:
(1) Daniel’s prayer was the result of his study of Scripture (he referred to Leviticus 26:40-45 and other passages).
(2) Like Solomon, Daniel confessed and repented of his people’s sins (see Lamentations 1:18).
(3) Daniel fasted and prayed for a period of time (see Matthew 17:21, for example).
James (James 5:16) tells us that “the effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” Daniel’s prayer was just that – the effective and fervent prayer of a righteous (in our case, being made right with God through a life-changing, personal relationship with Jesus Christ) man. In fact, II Chronicles 9:23-25 and 36:22-23 clearly reveal that God answered Daniel’s prayer on behalf of his people!
The application for us as Christian officers is straightforward:
(1) Be righteous before our Lord through a right-relationship with His Son.
(2) Pray fervently for our nation, our agencies, our leaders, and those we serve and protect.
Billy Graham’s Prayer for the Nation provides a great conclusion for this important message as it relates to us today:
“Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, 'Woe to those who call evil good,' but that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values.. We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery.. We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare... We have killed our unborn and called it choice. We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable. We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self-esteem.. We have abused power and called it politics... We have coveted our neighbor's possessions and called it ambition.. We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression. We have ridiculed the time-honoured values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment. Search us, Oh God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and Set us free.. Amen!”
Are you prepared to pray for our country in the manner of Solomon and Daniel? As believers, God gives each of us the grace to be a modern day "Daniel" every day. Let’s get right and be in the fight -- and watch what God will do!

UPDATED: Emergency Prayer Requests and National Day of Prayer Announcements

Late Breaking Prayer Requests and Praise Reports
The following were important enough to merit a special post.
(1) Fellow FCPO national board member Chuck Urgo from Chicago just sent me the following. Please join us in praying for our WV brother:

Chuck writes, "Andy Pringle is a good man with a wonderful wife and 3 kids. He's been a WV State Trooper in Ritchie Co over 10yrs., currently resides in Doddridge. Tragically Andy was hit by a drunk driver Sat. April, 24th and is currently in ICU at CAMC-General."
(2) Be in prayer for the Deb Mooney (wife of NMSP Lt. Pat Mooney) reference some medical issues she is dealing with -- healing, strength, full recovery. Secondly, please pray for the Mooney family in general as they lost Pat's aunt Dot -- his second "mother" -- last Saturday night.
(3) PRAISE REPORT: My chief's mother is recovering from yesterday's total knee replacement surgery. Please pray for complete recovery and strength while she undergoes the extensive physical therapy that is a major part of that procedure. She has had a few complications...pray for that as well.
(4) A North Carolina police sergeant is asking for prayer in the wake of being diagnosed with cancer.
(5) Be in prayer for a fellow Texas officer and chaplain who has been diagnosed with MS.
(6) Grant Wolf writes, "Kyle Kendall, is a former Clark County Deputy and a member of the Responder Life Team, living in Damascus (OR). His 10 year old daughter was struck by a car this afternoon when she went out to get the mail in front of their home. She was taken to OHSU by LifeFlight and is in very serious condition. Please pray for her, Kyle and their entire family!"
UPDATE: Joy Kendall, age 10, remains in critical condition at OHSU. Report from dad is that they are in “wait and see mode,” as she has significant brain swelling at this point. Continued to pray!
(7) From Grant: While trying to load a shoplifter into the County van, Bruce Mills, Pinellas County FL Deputy, fell and fractured his knee cap into to pieces, and tendons pulled those pieces away from the joints. Bruce had surgery and a hospital stay until going home. Now he’ll be on crutches and using a leg brace, with at least 6-8 weeks before returning to work. The whole thing is very painful. Bruce is also a pastor at his church, former FCPO national board member, a conference speaker and very active in many ways, so this will slow him down tremendously.
(8) The Midwest City (OK) Police Department, family and friends today are mourning the loss of Steve Owens. Steve was a man of God who was highly active in his church and was a prime example of a servant of others. Steve battled brain cancer bravely for a few years, and finally went home to his Father just a few minutes ago. I ask for you and your prayer chain to pray for Steve's family and all those who are affected by this loss.
(9) PRAISE REPORT! A NM officer thought to have had a "low-level" heart attack (sounds oxymoronic to me) has learned that he didn't have one after all. However, he does have to get healthy and lose about 60 pounds. Let's keep him in prayer. If I can limp around the gym on my bum hip (surgery next week), YOU can workout as well!
(10) Pray for a CO officer who is a Christian but is in rebellion in regards to family responsibilities and other issues. Pray that God will intervene (break) and bring our brother back into a right relationship with Him.

(8) The Midwest City (OK) Police Department, family and friends today are mourning the loss of Steve Owens. Steve was a man of God who was highly active in his church and was a prime example of a servant of others. Steve battled brain cancer bravely for a few years, and finally went home to his Father just a few minutes ago. I ask for you and your prayer chain to pray for Steve's family and all those who are affected by this loss.
(9) PRAISE REPORT! A NM officer thought to have had a "low-level" heart attack (sounds oxymoronic to me) has learned that he didn't have one after all. However, he does have to get healthy and lose about 60 pounds. Let's keep him in prayer. If I can limp around the gym on my bum hip (surgery next week), YOU can workout as well!
(10) Pray for a CO officer who is a Christian but is in rebellion in regards to family responsibilities and other issues. Pray that God will intervene (break) and bring our brother back into a right relationship with Him.
