Updated Prayer Requests & Meeting Reminder
As always, I will update this post as requests or changes arrive. Check back frequently!
MEETING Reminder:
-- This Thursday, July 1st. 1900 hours, Calvary South Denver (go to http://www.calvarycsd.org/Location/ for directions) in the Multi-Purpose room -- straight ahead after entering the main doors. I'll be teaching a special 4th of July message.
UPDATED Prayer Requests (will be updated as requests arrive -- check back frequently):
-- Paul Prachar in Florida asks that we be in prayer for the families and colleagues of the two Tampa officers who were slain today. Dennis sent this update:
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- A second Tampa police officer has died following a shooting during a traffic stop. Officials say 31-year-old officer David Curtis died at Tampa General Hospital. Officer Jeffrey Kocab, also 31, died earlier following the shooting early Tuesday. A massive search is on for a man and woman who were driving a red Toyota Camry. Police say Curtis pulled over the Camry because it didn't have a visible tag. He called for backup because the male suspect had a misdemeanor warrant. A few minutes later, police received a 911 call that the officers had been shot. Authorities found the officers lying on the ground. The male suspect is believed to be the shooter. Kocab's wife is nine-months pregnant. Curtis was a father of four.
Here is an update from Tampa: http://www.policemag.com/Channel/Patrol/News/2010/06/29/Tampa-Officers-Were-Two-of-Nicest-People-You-Could-Meet.aspx.
Let's also pray that the perp is arrested w/o further loss of LEO lives.
-- Whilst we're at it, let's be in prayer for the family and colleagues of the four other officers who have gone down "in the line" over the past few days. See http://www.odmp.org/ for details. Here is a related story: http://policelink.monster.com/news/articles/142425-park-ranger-death-in-kansas-is-first-in-36-years.
-- Pray for a close friend/police sergeant who is dealing with a serious and extremely painful duty-related injury to his foot.
-- See the post from last week for a host of other prayer requests. The Word (Bible) says that we should "pray continuously" (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18). I am also encouraging Denver Metro locals to make an effort to visit our wounded brother -- MI Officer Max Faistenhammer -- at Craig Hospital. Let's stay the course!
