Life Beyond the Badge

As a reminder for locals and visitors, this week’s profession-relevant Bible study will be held Saturday, June 6th, from 0900-1030 at Calvary South Denver (9052 W. Ken Caryl) in Littleton . We’ll be considering the question, “Is there life beyond the badge?” from Dep. Mike Dye’s “PeaceKeepers Bible Study for Law Enforcement.” Should hit home for everyone and I hope you will join us.

RECAP FROM LAST WEEK:

We had a full house last Thursday as we compared the mindset of outlaw motorcycle gang (OMG) members to those of us in law enforcement and to where we should be in our Christian walk. Retired Denver PD/current Colorado State Criminal Investigator and OMG “guru” Jim Wattles, along with Calvary South Denver Pastor/police chaplain Gino Geraci, provided the inspiration and much of the material for the study. Jim was prominently featured in a recent History Channel “Gangland” episode dealing with the Sons of Silence OMG. Jim is also a believer and was in attendance last week.

So what’s the analogy? To be a member of the Sons or most any OMG, you must be “all in” or you will most certainly be “all out.” There is nothing half-way about that criminal and violent lifestyle. Gino stated that, sadly, OMG members are more dedicated to the gang than many of us who call ourselves Christians are to our faith. God never intended us to be slaves to sin but rather that we live lives of victory in Him. Are YOU “all in?” Are you a believer or a "make-believer?" Christ was/is most definitely “all in” for YOU (suffering and dying for us on the cross). So how can we be “ALL IN?” Grab your Bible, turn to 1 Samuel 7, and listen to Gino’s message at http://www.calvarycsd.org/media/09008.mp3. It may be the most important half-hour of your life!

ON LAW ENFORCEMENT LEADERSHIP:

On the subject of leadership and the HUGE morale issues stemming from the lack thereof in law enforcement management, check out the new article by Calibre Press Street Survival lead instructor Lt. Jim Glennon: http://www.policeone.com/chiefs-sheriffs/articles/1837400-The-unfortunate-relationship-between-fear-and-trust/.

I met Jim whilst attending a recent Street Survival seminar in Colorado and he is simply outstanding. God is also working on Jim’s heart and I believe he is close to accepting Christ as his Savior. Jim is already an “ALL IN” leader and cop, but, as a believer (meaning one who has a personal, “saved” relationship with Jesus Christ), he would be EXACTLY the type of Christian servant-leader that our profession is so desperately in need of.

Beyond that, I strongly encourage ALL LEOs to attend this outstanding training. Go to http://www.calibrepress.com for details on an upcoming seminar near you.

PRAYER REQUESTS:

(1) Continue to pray for my dad who struggling to recover from back-to-back surgeries (colon cancer). The great news (PTL) is that they got ALL the cancer!
(2) Pray for me as I counsel a very difficult brother who is struggling with addictions to alcohol, pornography, job and marital issues.
(3) CLEF supporter Erv Meyer has been given a dire prognosis stemming from a degenerative lung condition. Please lift this humble servant in prayer.
(4) Aurora PD Officer Josh Jenson has asked that we pray for a sister who does not know Christ as Savior. While our Lord is not a supernatural “breach man” when it comes to our salvation (God lovingly knocks on the proverbial door as opposed to kicking it in – He never forces us to accept Him as Lord), we can most certainly ask Him to position others to share the Gospel with the lost. That is in fact our mission, duty and responsibility.
