CLEF Memorial Day Newsletter

Hope you all had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend and took time to remember what this holiday is really all about. Di and I were privileged to join hundreds of others standing in the rain (cold/wet but worth it) this AM at Ft. Logan National Cemetery to honor all who serve and have served. That said, let me say now how much I honor and appreciate YOUR service. Let’s be sure to share Christ with those sheepdogs in our midst who do not yet know Him as Savior so that, as said last week, we leave no one behind!

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

(1) As announced previously, our next meeting will be this Thursday (May 28th) starting at 1830 hours – that’s 6:30 PM for you slackers who don’t use “correct” time -- at Calvary South Denver in Littleton. Our study passage will come from 1 Samuel and will compare the dedication of OMG members (That’s Outlaw Motorcycle Gang and not text messaging shorthand for something else!) to that of those who claim to know Christ as Lord. Are YOU “ALL IN?” Join us Thursday for more!

(2) Former University of Colorado coach and Promise Keepers founder Bill McCartney has been brought back to run the organization he founded in 1990. PK and Coach Mac will be hosting a rally in Boulder on July31-August 1 (Friday/Saturday) and I for one hope to attend. Based in Colorado , Promise Keepers has directly reached more than five and a half million men world-wide since its founding in 1990. Check out the PK website (see the Promise Keepers link at http://www.thecenturionlawenforcementministry.org/) and note how they use the word “warrior” in their "About Us" section: right in line with our recent studies and newsletters!

PRAYER REQUESTS & PRAISE REPORTS:

(1) PRAISE REPORT: Ofc. Jason Pearson (EPD) sent the following:
“For all those who have been praying for Tayler Ellison, the 4 year old daughter of Englewood Ofc. Shane Ellison, I have encouraging news. Tayler's most recent MRI's have shown NO NEW TUMOR GROWTH in her brain! We were never supposed to have Tayler with us this long, and we were told the tumor most likely could not be stopped. Well, Praise the Lord, she is home now and will continue her therapy as is. The doctor's are being optimistic that her current course of treatment is effective. This is the news we have been praying for, and we need to keep praying for this family, as the miracle we were told we would need may be coming forth!”

Let’s continue to pray for Ellison (complete healing) and her family.

(2) Dep. Mike Dye in Florida writes (Notice how we send prayer requests as if they were police reports – cool!), "A Brother LEO and a fellow deputy sheriff approached me and told me that he was "broken" as his wife had "stepped out" on him for the second time in their marriage and has moved in with her "boyfriend" who is also a deputy in another county. This wife as taken their two (2) small children with her and the "new" boyfriend/deputy has left his wife and children for this woman (2 broken LEO families).

This deputy told me that he was once a strong Christian and active in the church with his wife and children. He has not cheated on her once and is committed to the marriage vows that he took. He stated that he feels such a spiritual void in his life right now. There is NO divorce or legal separation.

To top all of this, his wife is now "playing church" with her new boyfriend and kids at another church. This deputy has not stepped foot in a church since this happened out of embarrassment (until 05/24/09 when I took him to church with me). This broken brother is walking around in what I would call a "stunned fog." I'm not ashamed to tell you that tears fell down my cheeks as I begin to pray for him and his wife.

Right now this fellow Deputy is my # 1 priority! To love him, pray with him, correct him, encourage him, and to help lead him back to a strong spiritual foundation with Christ. In other words, get him spiritually healed first, and then second to help him pray for the restoration of his family and that God will convict his wife’s heart to restore the marriage that God has blessed and that she has broken.

Also, I can't help but wonder how many other fellow LEOs are in this similar situations. This is a great example of spiritual warfare! When satan sets his sights on you, he will try to take you and your family out. This is spiritual warfare plain and simple!

Please join me in STRONG prayer for deputy and for his wife: that God will heal his broken heart, that God will convict his wife's heart, and that God will convict the cheating deputy in an immediate way to bring restoration to this hurting family!”

(3) Please continue to pray for my dad as he remains in the hospital recovering from colon cancer surgery. He has been told there is an 80% chance they got all of the cancer. Thanks to all who have been praying for him…I simply ask that you continue with same as we await lab results and such.

(4) Pray for an officer who allowed alcohol and anger to cloud his judgment and thereby gave a criminal an “in” to file charges against him for an off-duty incident. This brother is also a Reserve Army officer who is scheduled to ship out to Afghanistan in the near future. Let’s ask God to intervene to insure that justice is done and that He will also send Believers to share the Gospel with him as warrior does not seek to know Christ as Savior.

Locals and visitors: I hope to see you Thursday. Stay safe out there and take care of each other!
