National Day of Prayer & National Police Week

Fellow Servant-Warriors:

As reported earlier this week, we will meet tomorrow (Thursday, May 7th) starting at 1830 hours at Calvary South Denver in Littleton. Hopefully everyone will take note that tomorrow is also the National Day of Prayer (http://www.ndptf.org/home/home.html). Our focus will be simple: a time to pray for our country, our government/leaders, our military, our fellow officers/profession, the "church," and of course our families. Many, myself included, believe strongly that we may very well be in the "last days." We will also set aside time to share testimonies and to ask God to guide and direct this ministry. Please pass this e-newsletter on to your friends and colleagues.

NATIONAL POLICE WEEK (May 10-16, 2009) is upon us!! We will of course be making this a part of next week's newsletter and Bible study (set for Saturday, May 16th). Check out the National Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial website at http://www.nleomf.com/NPW2009/index.html for more. I had hoped to be in DC this year but it is not to be. However, there will be live webcast on the 13th as detailed on the NLEOMF website. On the subject, scroll down to the bottom of our website for a pic of yours truly at the Memorial in 2007.

"Adopt-A-Cop" Prayer Protection Program:
Check out the new link on our website and thanks to Dep. Mike Dye in Florida who passed it along. Outstanding idea!

Corrections Fellowship: I've added a link for COs and Parole/Probation Officers -- cool website (http://www.csfministries.org/)!

Detroit Police Admit Failure, "Reduced to Prayer"
Wednesday April 7, 2004

"In response to the growing tide of violence in their city, the police department in Detroit has apparently admitted that they are at a loss about what to do and that they have failed in their jobs to protect people. So how do they decide to proceed? They pray. They ask God to fix things because, apparently, they can't do it.

Nancy A. Youssef writes for the Detroit Free Press:
The department held its first day of prayer, allotting an hour Monday at each of the department's 13 precincts. ... The change, the mayor and chief said, must come from the community and with God's help. It depends on everyone to call "on the power of God," Kilpatrick said. The mayor, police chief and about 200 participants were led in prayers by seven religious leaders.

[N]ot everyone greeted the event with praise. "That sounds like a police agency that's thrown its hands in the air," said Lance Smith, the director of community policing at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York. On an unofficial Web site that often critiques the Police Department, detroituncovered.com, one officer asked: "Is this the proper response to the fast growing rate of homicides in the city?"

I think that Smith is wrong - it doesn't sound like they are throwing up their hands in failure. They are throwing up their hands in failure. With heads bowed or held up, they are throwing their hands to the sky and begging a deity to do what they have proven unable to do, police the city of Detroit. Is this the proper response to the growth of homicides? It is if you have been raised to rely on God rather than yourself, perhaps."

An athiest wrote the last part! He has no idea how "right on" he is: we CAN'T do it ourselves and MUST in fact rely on God. Our Lord used an athiest to preach an awesome sermon! Praise God (and LOL)!

PRAYER REQUESTS:

**** (1) I just learned that my father, CMSgt. Lonie Williams (USAF retired), has been diagnosed with colon cancer. PLEASE join me in praying for this proud warrior -- courage, trust in the Lord, healing, restoration, etc. Pray also for my mother as she stands by my Dad. More to come...

(2) Pray for a brother who has been offered a job in DC but needs provision to get there (move, etc.). Pray also for the restoration of his marriage and that he will accept Christ as his Lord & Savior.

Pass it on folks!
