My Fellow Servant-Warriors:
We’ll have our usual law enforcement fellowship and Bible study this coming Saturday: 0900-1000+, Calvary South Denver, 9052 W Ken Caryl Avenue in Littleton . The not-so-usual part is that Jefferson County Deputy Art Briles will be teaching in my stead as I’ll be on duty and unable to attend. Art will be teaching on the relationship of our badge to the Biblical warrior's shield. I’ve seen his outline but don’t want to spoil the message by giving out too many details. Rather, take an hour out of your schedule this Saturday morning for positive fellowship with other Christian law enforcement personnel (and please pass this on to your colleagues and friends). Spouses are always encouraged to attend!
TCM APPAREL: Just another reminder that our gear (shirts, hoodies, polos) are in and FREE to local law enforcement personnel. Just a couple of rules: (1) one item each please, and (2) you have to attend a study to get one! Let me know in advance (size, black or blue color) so I can bring them. We’re already getting great feedback! The shirts are both really cool AND terrific tools to share Christ with others (your fellow officers in particular). All the shirts bear the new TCM badge and sword logo on the front and a paraphrase of Romans 13:1-7 on the back. Supplies are limited so get them while you can.
As those who attend Calvary South Denver may know, Pastor Sam is away on vacation this week and I was blessed to lead our church’s Tuesday night service in his stead. Even had a couple of our TCM law enforcement brothers show to support me which was greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!
As reported previously, Denver PD Officer Todd Gentry has a book that should be out by year’s end (“Bulletproof”). Todd also publishes an interesting blog (http://tntgentry.blogspot.com/) and his latest entries are great. Check it out! Also, don’t forget to take the wife to see Fireproof (http://www.fireproofthemovie.com/). Diana and I plan to see it Friday.
ELECTIONS! While I may not be able to make direct recommendations to WHO you should vote for (at least not in this forum), I can in fact advise as what criteria a Christian MUST consider when making choices at the polls. Clearly, the Believer is responsible for knowing what their candidates stand for on abortion (the words “Christian” and “abortion” in the same sentence are oxymoronic) and other Christian values. This is the most serious election we as American Christians have ever faced, and from the looks of the polls, a great many “Christians” aren't voting Christian values. We all need to be on our knees as well. On this subject, a local police chief recently forwarded the following:
“During WWII, there was an advisor to Winston Churchill who organized a group of people to drop what they were doing every night at a prescribed hour to collectively pray for one minute for the safety of England, its people and peace. This had an amazing effect, as bombing stopped. There is now a group of people organizing the same thing here in America . We are calling all Christians to stop what you are doing each evening at 9:00 P.M. Eastern(8 PM Central, 7 PM Mountain, 6 PM Pacific) and spend one minute praying for the safety of the United States, our troops, our citizens, the upcoming election, that the Bible will remain the basis for the laws governing our land, and that Christianity will grow in the U.S. Our prayers are the most powerful asset we have.”
Here again is the schedule:
09/26 - 10/02
II Kings 13:16 - Pray that the Lord would put His hands on the man of His choice for president (and his team) and guide them in this election.
10/03 - 10/09
Proverbs 1:5-6 - Pray that God's man will listen with discernment, add to his knowledge, and receive wise counsel in this campaign.
10/10- 10/16
John 16:33 - Pray that the man of God's choice would be given wisdom and ability from the Lord to overcome any obstacle or difficulty during this campaign.
10/17- 10/23
Acts 17:30 - Pray for repentance for yourself and for our nation.
10/24-10/30
Luke 12:54-57 – Pray that God's man and our nation will be discerning and do what is right.
10/31- 11/06
Phil. 4:13 - Pray that the Lord's choice for President will have special strength and unusual ability from God.
11/07-11/11
Habakkuk 1:5 and 3:2 - Pray that the Lord would do something that would utterly amaze us and give His servant victory.
2 Chronicles 7:14: "If my people who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land."
PRAYER REQUESTS:
(1) Please pray for the family of Albuquerque PD Lt. Todd Parkins who died in a terrible gun accident last week (see http://www.abqjournal.com/abqnews/content/view/8781/). Todd was a solid Believer but his family (wife, kids, fellow officers, etc.) really need our prayers and support.
(2) Pray for the daughter of a fellow officer and dear friend who is going through a very rough time right now (details deleted for privacy reasons).
(3) Continue to pray for Kevin in NC as he seeks healing, restoration, and direction for his ministry.
(4) Pray (guidance, direction, and God’s will for his life/family/future) for a local officer who is trying to relocate to CA for family reasons. He has a shot with an agency in Simi Valley .
(5) Pray for Dep. Briles as he teaches in my stead this Saturday. Pray also for The Centurion Ministry (TCM) as we branch out of our “comfort zone:” The Holy Spirit and my brother officers are encouraging me to move our studies around to other locales in the Metro area from time-to-time so as to bring in others who might not otherwise want to make the drive out to Littleton .
Finally, we (law enforcement) are once again headline news after the arrest of a DPD officer for alleged sexual assault. While praying for both the victim and the officer, we need to use these opportunities to remind ourselves about who we are in Christ AND the need to be “salt and light” (Matthew 5:13-16) to our fellow officers and agencies.
Don’t forget to “put on” your armor daily (both natural and spiritual – Eph 6:10-20).
