Hey Cop - are you a "Jesus Freak?"

We’re “on” for our regular Saturday morning LEO Bible study, prayer and fellowship meeting (0900-1000+, Calvary South Denver in Littleton – http://www.calvarycsd.org/ and click on the compass for directions). Note that our host church will be having their monthly men’s breakfast from 0800-1030. Feel free to come early and grab a bite ($5) before our study if you like!

We had a terrific study last week and were blessed to have Colorado Peace Officers for Christ International (POFCI) representative/Denver PD Sgt. Mark Roggeman in attendance. God has great purpose for Mark in our joint efforts to reach LEO’s for Christ.

Our topic centered on the concept of “lukewarm” (AKA pew warming, fence sitting, lazy/retired on duty, etc.) “Christianity” and the FACT that our Lord detests it. Revelation 3:16 reads, “So then, because you are lukewarm and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth.

Here’s the analogy: milk is great cold. There's nothing quite like a cold glass of milk with some cookies or (dare I say it) a donut. Milk is also good hot -- outstanding with chocolate syrup or with coffee. But lukewarm milk? The thought of it is a bit sickening ("vomit") and just doesn't cut it. Some might think that lukewarm would be more acceptable to God because it is somewhat close to hot. But Jesus is saying, "I don't want lukewarm. I don't want half-hearted commitments. I want you to decide – you’re either IN or out!” Why? If you're hot, you're “on fire” and walking WITH God -- where He wants you to be. If you're “cold,” God longs for the day when you’ll realize your need for Christ and come to Him. From a Biblical perspective, the lukewarm person is in the worst state of all because he is self-deceived. The lukewarm person says, "I go to church; I read the Bible sometimes; I'm a "good" person; I kind of believe in God—when it's convenient;" etc. Want more proof? See Matthew 12:30 and 6:24, and John 15:6.

So what is your “spiritual temperature” today? While I’m not sure it was meant as such, I had a fellow cop gave me a huge compliment this week by calling me a “Jesus Freak”(hot)! Praise God! Pray that I will continue to live up to that. In fact, I ask you all to hold me accountable for same. Let’s get off the “lukewarm” bench (pew) and back in the "fight."

This week we will follow up on this “lukewarm” concept by asking, “Can I continue to lead a sinful (CARNAL) life and still call myself a Christian?” Some big name tele evangelists have become rich by teaching that we can be "saved" while leading whatever lifestyle (“carnal Christianity) makes us comfortable. Is that where you're at? We’ll debunk that false teaching on Saturday!

WEBSITE UPDATE: Check out the new links! As always, let me know your thoughts and ideas.

TCM APPAREL: As per previous posts, our gear (shirts, hoodies, polos) are IN and FREE to law enforcement personnel. Just a couple of rules: (1) one each please, and (2) you must attend a study to get them. Bribery? Guilty as charged! Let me know your size in advance please. They are going fast -- get yours while they last!

EL PASO COUNTY (and surrounding area) LEO’S: I heard from Jeff Strossner in Colorado Springs this week. Jeff hosts a small group Bible study for Springs-area LEO’s. Contact him at jeffstross@msn.com for details.

VOTE! Pastor Gino Geraci gave an awesome answer to the current political “question” today on his afternoon call-in radio show (http://www.947krks.com/). I’ll have more on this next week but, for now, I can only continue to encourage you to study the issues from a Biblical perspective. Need some guidance? Check out Focus on the Family’s voter guide at http://focusvoter.com/. This probably the single most crucial election we as Christians will face in our lifetime. In fact, some feel this may be the beginning of the end in terms of free elections and freedom in general. Regardless, study the issues, become informed, and vote from a Christian (Biblical) perspective.

PRAYER REQUESTS (as always, send me your prayer requests or, better yet, come join us on Saturday so we can pray for you):

(1) Please, please continue to pray for CSP Trooper Scott Hinshaw: severe pain, more surgery, etc.

(2) Continue to pray that Chief Deputy DA Sean May’s killer will be found and that justice will prevail. Pray for his family and colleagues as well (see http://www.seanmaymemorial.com/ for more).

(3) Continue to be “on your knees” for our country and those who lead/will be leading us. This week’s scripture is Acts 17:30-31: pray for repentence (both for ourselves and our nation). Remember 2 Chronicles 7:14: "If my people who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land."

Don't forget to help us get the “WORD” out by forwarding our newsletters and website “411” to others. Hope to see you Saturday morning!
