Latest Round of Prayer Requests
See previous posts for more...but time for the latest round (UPDATED 05/25/2011):
** Des Moines (IA) Ofc. Jim Keller writes, Please hold me in your prayers as retirement is less than 2 years away. A year ago I was diagnosed with a brain tumor, a menengioma, and I go back for my next MRI soon where they will check to see if it has changed. My wife Vicki Lynn, and the prayer warriors at Sunshine Open Bible in Des Moines pray that it is gone. I put my trust and future square in the hands of my Savior.
PS, Pastor is going to be gone this Sunday, I’m preaching, that is another request for prayer.
Let's join with those in Iowa in lifting Jim in prayer.
** Please pray for new New Mexico Special Investigation Division Dir. Bill Hubbard as he leads my old unit with godly servant leadership. He is truly a man for "such a time as this."
** Riverside (MO) Officer Jeff Taylor was struck by lightning while helping in the disaster relief in Joplin. Jeff is currently in critical condition -- please pray!
** Please continue to pray for Angie Hays, wife of retired Denver PD Officer and current DPD Chaplain and Pastor Manny Hays. Angie has advanced liver cancer and is in need of a transplant or direct healing from God to save her life. Regardless, she is ready to go if called...splendid behavior! Manny needs your prayes as well as he cares for his bride.
** UPDATE from Dep. Eric Haskins in OK:
Oklahoma City Police, Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office, US Marshall's and countless others worked diligently and I am pleased to say there are three subjects in custody for the shooting of Major John Waldenville. The recovery road for him is going to be long. He had permanent hearing loss in his right ear, loss of the use of his eye, a shattered jaw. He is currently being kept on a ventilator and kept sedated to help the healing process. Prayer is working, doctors state there is no brain damage, and John is responding to stimulus on his left side. We are prayerful for him and many have remained diligent on his care. Thank you and the many people you have contact with that have prayed and lifted John up. As hard as it is sometimes, I feel we need to also pray for the people involved. The suspects obviously need to find the love and compassion of our Lord and Savior. God bless you Grant, and bless all the men and women that keep our country and communities safe.
Major Waldenville was working a security job, taking a $90 cash deposit to the bank. Two male subjects attacked him. They beat on him, and he took a gunshot to the head. He wentinto surgery with a broken jaw, a broken eye socket and various other injuries. He came out of the surgery, but is still in critical condition.
** Be in prayer for our fellow officers working the Joplin, MO tornado issue. Pray also for injured and the families of those killed.
Clark Cayton with Responder Life (www.responderlife.com) sends the following: We have already identified at least 12 First Responder Families in Joplin, MO who have lost everything they own. Please contact me at clarke.cayton@responderlife.com if you know of a family that is in need.
** Update and new prayer request from Dan Wolke in CA:
I was 22 years old when I was shot. I was only the second police officer dating back to the founding of Berkeley P.D. in 1904 to be shot in the line of duty. After 1968 two of my friends were murdered at BPD in the next 4 years. Berkeley became a very dangerous place to work because we were surrounded by Oakland and Richmond which both have a very high crime rate.
Three years ago my wife Cyndi and I had a chance to counsel a young police officer and his wife after he had been shot in the head (glancing blow) and through his badge. Berkeley discontinued their chaplaincy program a few years after I retired. God opened the door to reach out to this couple. I am helping Berkeley restart their chaplaincy program. I am praying that the Chief is serious and doesn't just want another plaque on the wall.
Last week I was diagnosed with early stage prostate cancer. This Wednesday Cyndi and I see the urologist to find out our next step. He told me I could watch and wait up to 1-2 years but I told him cops are only good about suggesting that others wait. It appears that surgery (possibly robotic/laprascopic surgery and targeted radiation are possibilities.)
Our grandson Landyn Daniel Wolke is 2 months old and he is doing pretty well. He still is underweight and the doctor suggested that out kids try to feed him more at each meal. It was just about two months ago I contacted you and told you that he was in very critical condition. Our God is so good!!!
** Please pray for wounded WI Dep. Mike Seversen who is again having complications stemming from his being shot in the LOD many years ago. Consider leaving him a word of encouragement on his Caring Bridge site (lots of 411 as well): http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/mikeseversen1/journal.
