On True Servant-Leadership Towards Those In Authority Over Us

Fellow Warriors:

My apologies for all the typos in last night's (or this morning's, depending on your perspective) e-newsletter. I was up WAY too late. Hopefully, I've corrected them here.

This has been a somber week as many of us here in Colorado and in Oklahoma will be burying brothers lost in the line of duty. Montrose (CO) PD Sergeant David Kinterknecht will be laid to rest tomorrow on the Western Slope and will, by necessity, be the first CO LEO funeral I’ve missed in many years. Our fellow sheepdogs in Oklahome will also be attending to two of their own. Let's be sure that we pray, lead, serve and love!

In addition, we have also learned that South Fork (CO) Chief of Police Robert Harris reportedly took his own life last week. Both cases bring the mind God’s mission and command for us in this life: to share the Gospel with others, to live it in such a way that others see something “different” in us, and that this difference will open doors for us to share. Did fellow officers ever come along side either of these sheepdogs with a message of hope? Did no one see the signs in Robert’s case? Let’s be sure that we reach out to our brothers and sisters in blue so that no one leaves this life without hope and a future with the Lord.

MESSAGE RECAP

Last week we concluded our study of the contrast between David and Saul (I Samuel 16 and 17) during which I shared part of the message I taught at our church’s Tuesday night service last week. The message was entitled Run to the Battle and centered on (1) the importance of training for spiritual warfare, including a recap of our weapons and armor per Ephesians 6:10-18 (emphasis for this teaching on v. 18); and (2) that, like David, God is calling us to “run to the battle” with Christ as our captain and remembering that He is the one who will deliver us from the evil one if we would but TRAIN in His word and be willing to get into the fight. In particular, review 1 Samuel 17:31-52 and ask the Holy Spirit to open your heart and mind to what our Lord is truly teaching us in this passage. I also have a copy of the message on CD and computer that is available upon request. Finally, I encourage you to check out the awesome “Run to the Battle” video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jL7cL_p5_84 (also linked here on the website) that highlights the message even more.

NEXT WEEK’S MESSAGE

Our next meeting will be Thursday, August 6th from 1900-2000 hours at Calvary South Denver in Littleton where I will share a message inspired in part by Calvary Pastor Sam Park’s teaching on 1 Timothy 6. Suffice it to say that I was convicted to the core and see great application to those of us serving in law enforcement. In general, the average LEO’s “gripe meter” is pretty much off the scale! But what does God say about that and what should we -- if we are the true servant-leaders our Lord has called us to be -- doing to remedy that situation?

Join us next Thursday and we’ll tackle the issue together.

MEETING DAY CHANGE!!

Saturday has been our primary meeting day since the inception of The Centurion Law Enforcement Ministry (TCM) in 2006. That said, the local membership has expressed a nearly unanimous consensus that Thursday evenings are generally preferred over Saturdays. As such, and while we will still meet on Saturday mornings from time-to-time, our primary meeting day will be Thursday from 1900-2000. Please be sure to pass it on to those you share the newsletter with and continue to check weekly for meeting updates. Thanks for the input (always welcome and encouraged)!

PRAYER REQUESTS (as always, continue to forward requests you want shared in this venue)

(1) Want to see our LE supervisors rise to where they should be? Want morale to improve? Let’s make a concerted effort to lift them in prayer on a daily basis while modeling Christ in our own lives and watch God work! More on this next week!

(2) Continue to pray for the families and colleagues of our fallen brethren – and ask God to provide you/us with opportunities to be used by Him to lead others to Christ.

(3) Pray for the Baron family (Fed and county cops) as they come to Colorado from New Mexico for a much needed vacation.

(4) I covet your prayers for both myself and this outreach (most assuredly His and not ours). Keep ‘em coming and thanks in advance.

Gear up, draw your sword (God’s word – the Bible), and engage in the “battle!”
