Late Breaking News

I am in Texas taking care of my family -- Mom in particular -- and preparing for my father's funeral. I would press the issue regarding what led to my Dad's death but Mom has asked me to let it go. As many of you know, I am not good at letting such things go. What IS true is that God allowed me to lead my father to Christ -- and, while that was certainly enough, Dad made a re-commitment just last month. As such, there is great comfort knowing that my Dad is now with the Lord and is no longer in pain.

THANKS to all of you who have called or emailed during this tough time. We are most humbled by same. Please continue to keep us in prayer -- especially my mother. Ask that God will give me strength and wisdom as I give my father's eulogy.

Dad was a true sheepdog and American hero: 30 years in the Armed Forces plus another 17 in Civil Service; the last American off Iwo Jima when we gave it back to the Japanese in '68 (we still fly the same flag he removed from the pole on Mt. Suribachi before getting on the plane) -- an affront to Dad as a matter of honor and principle; 2 tours in Viet Nam and another in Thailand where he was severely injured loading a bomb on a B-52; lots of stuff he could never talk about due to secrecy; and so much more. Dad was never politically correct -- simply CORRECT -- and never flinched from telling the truth. He will be buried with full military honors at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. Here is Dad's corrected obituary: www.schertzfuneralhome.com/index.cfm.

Secondly, please see the update on NM State Police Sgt. Andy Tingwall: http://dps.nm.org/index.php is directly from the source and I sincerely apologize for any misinformation I passed on previously. In my haste due to the circumstances of the last few days, I failed to verify the dubious information put out by the Press. As a PIO I should have known better (they even managed to misspell my Dad's name despite my repeatedly going out of my way to help them get it right). I would be attending Andy's memorial service but I will be burying my own father instead. Please pray for Andy's family and his fellow officers in NM.

What's the message here? We need to be ready folks! Are you? Do you KNOW where you will spend eternity? My Dad did -- PTL! If you don't, get right wth God and "DO IT NOW" (as we say on a felony stop). Tomorrow may be too late and there is no 2nd chances after this life comes to an end.

I'll have more later this week about our next meeting -- probably a week from Thursday. Stay tuned for details.
