Remembering 9/11

My Fellow Sheepdogs:

Today we remember the cowardly attack on our nation seven years ago. I am asking you all to fly your flags and pass this newsletter on to others as a reminder to follow suit. Please take some time to pray for the families of those lost and especially those of our fellow officers who paid the ultimate sacrifice on that fateful day. At the same time, please pray for our country, our leaders, and our military personnel serving overseas keeping the enemy at bay (our country has NOT been attacked since 911 BECAUSE of their service in Iraq and Afghanistan as well as our vigilance here at home).

NO TCM STUDY THIS WEEKEND: We will NOT have our normal Saturday study this week as I will be recharging my own batteries at the Men’s Prayer Breakfast being held at Calvary Chapel South Denver from 0800-1030 (Saturday). That said, you don’t have to attend Calvary to attend (sorry ladies – guys only for this event). This is a great opportunity to fellowship with other solid Christian brothers. Great food (Retired DPD officer and current chaplain Manny Hays and his crew cook up a terrific breakfast) followed by a time of worship and a powerful message.

While I announce various special programs at CCSD and other areas churches from time-to-time, I also strongly encourage you to let me know about relevant events happening at YOUR churches, groups, etc.

For those who missed our study last weekend, we concluded our look at inter-agency strife and rivalry. Bottom line is that the ongoing/age-old petty issues between agencies are just that – PETTY! As Christian cops, we need to be taking a leadership role on this issue. We are ALL “blue” and we need to come together instead of focusing on our differences. While this is but my own perspective, I was very gratified by the way we all cooperated with one another during the DNC. The Bible is full of direction on this topic -- check it out!

TCM APPAREL & LOGO: TCM now has a representative logo and our order of t’s, polos, and hoodies is in the works. Each will sport the logo on the front while the t’s and hoodies will also have a paraphrase of Romans 13: 1-7 on the back: "Cops: God's ministers for good and a terror against evil. We do not bear the sword in vain." Special thanks goes to JeffCo Deputy Art Briles for his ideas and “ARTistic” input and to Robert Butcher of J and R Graphics (http://www.jandrmarketingtools.com/) in Lakewood . Every part of the badge and sword logo has specific meaning to those of us in law enforcement and I’ll detail those points in the near future.

PRAYER REQUESTS: As always, send me your prayer requests for publication here OR give me a shout if you need immediate prayer support.
(1) Pray for the Denver PD motor officer who was seriously injured Wednesday morning. Here is all I have now: http://www.9news.com/news/article.aspx?storyid=99426&provider=top.
(2) Hurricane Ike is rapidly approaching the south Texas coast. Pray for those who will be affected as well as all the first responders who will be doing all they can to “serve and protect” at their own peril. BTW, nothing wrong with praying that God will simply guide the storm back out to sea.
(3) I had a comment on the website from an anonymous party asking how to reach FPD officer and Army National Guard Captain Derwin Allen in Afghanistan . Since he did not leave an email address, I don’t think Derwin will mind if I post his here (he would appreciate your correspondence but has little time to be online): derwin.allen@us.army.mil. Continue to pray for Derwin and all those fighting for us on foreign shores.
(4) Be in prayer for a Christian teen who is facing persecution in her own home because of her faith.
(5) Continue to pray for Pastor Kevin in NC as he seeks direction and inspiration for his ministry there.

Very late and gotta hit the sack. I’ll have more later this week. Stay safe out there and watch your/your partner’s “six.”
